“Nice of you to grow the hair out again for me, Duncan,” she said, eyes sweeping down to take in his entire outfit. “Is that really the same outfit? Or did you get it distressed for me, too?”

“Amanda…”

“Oh, come on, darling,” she cooed, sidling up to him. “This is supposed to be fun. Don’t be such a stick in the mud. Rebecca would love this.”

“Rebecca’s dead…and I don’t see how wearing this outfit in public could make her come back.”

“It’s not, Duncan. But it is the way I want to honour her memory on her birthday.”
